At Automattic, we’ve always worked fully distributed. 🤗 This means that we can hire from anywhere in the world and we all just work from wherever we live.
One of the essential pieces to a functional distributed company is figuring out a way to still have in-person time with each other, at least a couple of times per year.
Two weeks ago, my team had the pleasure of coming together for a week in Rome, Italy. From my perspective, everything about the trip was really lovely, including the people, the food, the accommodations, the culture, and the activities.
Schedule
Going into the week, I like to have a bit of structure in place. I like having a nice mix of work time, connection time, and free time. Here was our agenda for the week:
Accommodations
We stayed at and co-working from the Camplus San Pietro. The rooms were modern and clean. There’s a cafe, a gym, great wifi everywhere within the building and there was plenty of communal space for us to co-work.
Activities
All three activities were very reasonably priced. I’d highly recommend each one.
Vatican Tour
The first day we spent the morning touring the Vatican. Here are some memorable pictures.
Pizza Making Class
The second day we did a pizza making class together:
Colosseum Tour
The last day all together we toured the Colosseum:
The food
The food was all very delicious. I can’t think of a single thing that I had that I didn’t like.
