Heya! 👋 I’m Dave. I’m a product designer, engineer, PM, and team lead who works on WordPress.com.

My darling daughters,

I wanted to write down some advice for each of you – my thoughtful 15-year-old, my spirited 8-year-old, and my delightful 4-year-old. It’s hard to put into words how much I love you! As you navigate your way through life’s ups and downs, I hope these pointers remind you of what matters most. Though the years ahead will surely teach you many lessons, here are some reminders that you can tuck away and revisit as needed:

  • I love you!
  • I love your Mom.
  • You’re amazing.
  • I’m so proud of you!
  • Your worth is not defined by your grades, achievements, or other people’s opinions.
  • True happiness cannot be bought. It springs from within – from contentment, empathy, generosity, and living purposefully. No jewelry, shoes, watch, or outfit will ever fulfill you quite like bringing joy to others will. Cherish relationships, collect memories, give often, serve your community. Material things come and go, but these rewards last a lifetime.
  • Surround yourself with friends who build you up and bring out the best in you. Cut ties with people who bring you down.
  • Popularity is fleeting. Don’t bend to peer pressure or chase status. Stay grounded in who you really are.
  • You are extremely blessed. Remember to be grateful for all that you have.
  • In all that you do, remember to work hard. Put in your best effort, even when the task is difficult or tedious.
  • Take care of your body, mind, and spirit. Make self-care a priority.
  • Aim to be kind and slow to anger. Try approaching conflicts with empathy and compassion.
  • It’s normal to feel lonely sometimes. Don’t suffer in silence if loneliness comes your way. Reach out to those who love you – I’m always here for you.
  • Pray. When you need peace, support, comfort, or guidance on things large or small consider giving prayer a try. It’s helped me immensely in my life.
  • Listen to your heart. When all else fails, trust your gut.
  • Give to others and volunteer your time. Find little ways to make a difference.
  • Appreciate the present moment. Don’t get so caught up in the future that you forget to live now.
  • Nature is healing. Spend time outdoors as often as you can.
  • Laughter is good medicine. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  • Mistakes and failures are opportunities to learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things.
  • You have so much to offer this world. Don’t ever doubt your worth or hide your light.

Even if you forget everything else, never forget that I love you unconditionally and I’m always in your corner.

🥰🤟🤗
